COMPLETED

2006 - 2007:   A portion of Red Wing Ranch owned by members of the Riggs family was separated from the family ranch and transferred to Mare Pasture Development, LLC.

2008:   The Tejido Group of the University of Arizona's College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture undertook a semester's study of The Mare Pasture culminating in a master plan for the 1,088 acre property. 

2009 - 2011:   Cochise County Planners discussed The Mare Pasture project and enthusiastically supported the concept of an agriculture integrated, sustainable community resulting in the conservation of native rangeland, approximately 70% or the 1,088 acres. Educators including the University of Arizona's College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture discussed the inclusion of a college campus at the center of The Mare Pasture community and expressed strong interest and commitment to be integrally involved in the project.

2011 - 2014:   Verdant Technologies provided information and guidance regarding hydroponic farming and developed a business plan for the agrarian modules of The Mare Pasture. Discussions continued with the University of Arizona's College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture culminating in a commitment to develop a center at The Mare Pasture for the hands-on study of the Development of Sustainable Communities in Arid Lands. Preliminary discussions with the University of Arizona's College of Agriculture led to a desire for an agriculture center at The Mare Pasture community.

Further development of the master plan and the preparation of master development documents. These drawings will be used in PHASE I to complete planning and engineering for Cochise County entitlement approval.

 2014 - 2016:   The focus during this time was detailed research into the wine industry which has blossomed in the Willcox area. Business plans were written by a writer who has experience in the California wine industry. Both plans can be accessed from this site.     BR Vineyards     Brannick Cellars     In addition to those business plans, a business plan for The Lodge @ Red Wing Ranch and a business plan for BR Range Beef, a grass-fed and grass-finished beef operation have been started. Soil testing was performed and slope orientation was analyzed to determine the best location for vineyards and grape varieties.

CURRENT

2016-2017:   Finalize business plans for The Lodge @ Red Wing Ranch and BR Range Beef and research and write business plans for BR Orchard, Mare Pasture Equestrian Center and BR Farms. Finalize the master development documents and engineering documents and secure entitlements from Cochise County. Continue discussions with the College of Agriculture at the University of Arizona for the development of an Agriculture Institute to encourage youth to engage in farming and ranching. Continue discussions with the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture at the University of Arizona regarding a center for the study of Sustainable Development in Arid Lands. Continue research on the development of a Liberal Arts College at The Mare Pasture and the formation of an institute to direct the implementation of The Mare Pasture project as well as study the sustainable preservation of open rangeland - Brannick Institute.

PHASE I    

2016 - 2018:   The initial phase of development of The Mare Pasture project will include preparing and planting approximately 49 acres of vineyards - BR Vineyards; the design and construction of a winery - Brannick Cellars; the design and construction of overnight guest accommodations - Lodge @ Red Wing Ranch; the fencing and irrigation system for a grass-fed, grass-finished beef operation - BR Range Beef; and the design and construction of an equestrian center - Mare Pasture Equestrian Center. The planning and construction of access to The Mare Pasture from Arizona State Highway 186. Planning and development of systems for generating renewable power; providing fresh water; and treating sanitary waste ecologically. The design and construction of residential property necessary to meet current demand.

PHASE II

2018 - 2021:   The planning and construction of roadways, trails, water, power, and sewage infrastructure to areas of The Mare Pasture project not provided in Phase I. The preparation and planting of fruit and nut trees throughout The Mare Pasture property - BR Orchards; The preparation and planting of community gardens, commercial farm property and hydroponic greenhouses. The design and construction of the Liberal Arts College and University of Arizona Centers for Agriculture and Sustainable Development as well as facilities for the Brannick Institute. The design and construction of commercial facilities, health facilities, municipal facilities and educational facilities. The design and construction of residential property necessary to meet current demand.

PHASE III

2021:   The design and construction of commercial facilities and residential property necessary to meet current demand.
